Foreign investments down 28%

In 2004 foreign investments in Spain fell 28% compared with 2003, from 23.502 million dollars to 18.361 million. This is the lowest level since 2001. In 2003 Spain was number 6 on the list over countries with the highest investment. In 2004 it fell to the 8th place.
However, when it comes to investing countries, Spain went up to the 4th spot, after USA, UK and Luxembourg, with total investments of 23.373 million dollars. The main reason for this is the purchase by Santander Central Hispano of the British bank Abbey National.
